Coming to a Shelf Near You: NECA Videogame Figures

Posted by Luke Brown On June - 2 - 2008

If you haven’t heard by now, we were lucky enough to get to attend a panel held by NECA at this past weekend’s Wizard World Philadelphia. Not only did they field questions about what we could expect from them in the upcoming year, but they also had a boatload of pictures of all their hottest figures in development. NECA was kind enough to pass the photos of all the videogame related merchandise they have planned on to us, and now we’re sharing them with you. Hit the jump for a peek.

We start our look at the figures with Bionic Commado‘s “Rad” Spencer. The arm itself has over 21 parts, and will be fully articulated. This should be out in time for the release of the game.

An all-new translucent sculpt of Slimer from Ghostbusters. Expect this on store shelves just in time for the game release in October.

Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden II. This figure will boast more than 30 points of articulation. Perfect for posing him in all those crazy Team Ninja poses without the bad camera angles.

Prototype‘s main protagonist, Alex. The figure looks just about done, but we all thought the same thing about the game, didn’t we? NECA says we can expect this guy in stores when Prototype finally ships.

Here we have the always enticing Lara Croft. NECA’s made some Lara figures before, but this one will be based on the upcoming Underworld
title. I couldn’t wait for the game, and now I can’t wait for the figure. Expect them to ship around the same time this fall.

Now we get to the meat and potatoes, the Gears of War figures. First we have Kim, who many remember as the character nobody wanted to be in multiplayer. Then of course, there’s General Raam. That sculpt looks about as intimidating as the real deal. These figures will ship around the same time this winter.

The figures above make up NECA’s Gears of War Series Two line. Dom, Baird and two versions of the Theron Guard should be making their way into retailers by September. There will also be another Marcus in the line with a new paint application. I will be grabbing both Baird and Dom since they’re my two favorite characters.

Also shipping later this year will be a “Marcus vs Locust” two-pack. If you couldn’t tell, Marcus will be chainsawing his way through the Locust he comes bundled with. While it’s an early sculpt, that thing looks boss. It’s going to look real nice in my living room and on my desk. Yeah, I’m buying two. Why are you looking at me like that?

Last, but certainly not least, we get a glimpse of what NECA’s version of the Lancer replica will look like. The gun will boast vibration and LED lights. Sadly, there will not be a working chainsaw. It’s a little too early to say who’s going to have the better replica, NECA or Triforce, but right now, I’d say they’re at even money.

There will of course be some Gears of War 2 figures coming later this year, but we won’t be able to get a glimpse of them until we get closer to game time. And while they didn’t have any pictures yet, NECA also announced they accquired the license to Street Fighter IV, promising ultra-detailed sculpts and high articulation. I am stoked to check all of these figures out when they ship, and you guys should be too. Look for to have more news from NECA in the upcoming months.
