All you “Bad Girl in a Chainmail Bikini” fetishists will be getting some love on the silver screen thanks to Robert Rodriguez taking on the Red Sonja film. Set to star Planet Terror and Jawbreaker femme fatale, Rose McGowan, the film will start shooting this October. Find out more after the jump.

USA Today is reporting Rodriguez is planning to have his take on Red Sonja hit screens some time in 2010. Personally, I think this is fantastic news. I’m always in favor of a smart take on a bad ass chick in a leading role. If you’re like me, at first Rose McGowan may not have appeared the right direction. Then I thought about it for a minute. She’s got the chops as Rodriguez confims:

Rose is a pistol. She’s whip-smart, has attitude to burn, is sexy, extremely strong, yet has a vulnerable side that would surprise her closest friends. That description also fits Red Sonja.

Okay, but what about the build. Red Sonja is no pushover. Not to knock Rose, she’s a beautiful woman, but she’s not exactly known for rock hard abs. She has more of a natural beauty. Of course, Rose herself will be undergoing some intense training before the shoot starts. “I lean toward physicality,” Rose says. “The story has characters trashed by life who fight their way back. That is my theme.” At least she knows what she’s getting into.

As to the story, no details were divulged as of yet, but we should expect the script to pay tribute to Robert Howard’s original vision, as well as pulling from some of the comic lore Dynamite has established. The film appears to be in capable hands, and I can’t wait to start hearing more about it.
