DC COMICS
Terra #1
Written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray, and featuring the beautiful art of Amanda Connor, this new mini-series promises to reintroduce a character that has a storied history in the DCU. Based on the creative team alone, you need to pick this up. Just about everything that Jimmy and Justin write is pretty damn good, and Amanda’s work speaks for itself. She may not do more than a few stories a year, but they’re always totally worth the wait. Besides, this $2.99 issue gives us a glimpse of what we can expect when this same creative team launches the Power Girl ongoing early next year. Don’t miss out on this.
Top Ten: Season Two #2
Despite series creator Alan Moore not returning, the first issue of Zander Cannon and Gene Ha’s spin-off was pretty good. Gene Ha hasn’t lost a step artistically, and Cannon learned a lot working with Moore on the original series, and it shows. Kudos to both of these gentlemen for keeping the spirit of the book alive. The world needs more stories from this universe, and I’m glad someone is willing to tell them. Be sure to snag this $2.99 issue before they fly off the shelves.
MARVEL COMICS
Amazing Spider-Man #576
Chris Bachalo turned out a pretty solid issue last week, and I have to think this week’s issue will follow suit. Joe Kelly weaves an interesting tale on the return of longtime rogue, Hammerhead, and I’m curious to see where it goes from here. If any villain needed a bit of an updating, it’s Hammerhead. You won’t want to miss another solid Spidey tale for $2.99.
Invincible Iron Man #7
As if there was any doubt I’d be recommending this book again. Matt Fraction and Salvador Larocca showed with their last arc they had the ability to turn Tony Stark into a compelling character. Do you have any reason to think this next arc will be any different? Of course not. Add it to your buy pile for $2.99. You’re not really going to pass up Fraction writing Spider-Man are you?
Ultimatum #1
I’m just going to let these preview pages do the talking. David Finch is one artist who you must follow no matter what he’s working on. This book is no exception.
Grab this for $3.99.
No trade paperback or hardcover this week. I know how many games are coming out these next few weeks, so I’m gonna go easy on you guys for a little while.
See you next week.
