Courtesy of Warner Brothers, we’ve got an interview with the voice of Artemis in the upcoming Wonder Woman animated feature, Rosario Dawson. In a career spanning just over a dozen years, Dawson has managed to seamlessly glide between fanboy features, big-time Hollywood epics, charming independent and “smaller” films, and even a musical. She is constantly in demand by the hippest of today’s filmmakers from Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez to Quentin Tarantino, Spike Lee and Kevin Smith., Her on-screen resume includes Sin City (and its upcoming sequel), Eagle Eye, Grindhouse, Clerks and Men in Black II, as well Rent, Alexander, 25th Hour, He Got Game and the recent Seven Pounds.

Dawson is every fanboy’s fantasy: a stunning beauty with a greater love and knowledge of comic books than your average Wednesday-at-Golden-Apple geek. She has her own comic book series (“Occult Crimes Taskforce”), she hosted Saturday Night Live just a few weeks ago, and she once spoke Klingon as a guest on Late Night with Conan O’Brien.

An interview with Dawson is only challenging for your tape recorder – because she has the capacity to answer a question for three minutes without taking a breath. She is more impressive and endearing than you’d ever hope to find, and she offered a significant stretch of time to discuss her role in Wonder Woman, the intrinsic attributes of a great super hero, an absolute adoration of Neil Gaiman, some deleted The Devil’s Rejects scenes, a hankering to play the live-action version of Harley Quinn, and her love for anything in the comics realm.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you our 500th post. Enjoy.

When it comes to super hero cartoons, DC is, without question, the top dog. With their serious tone and minimalist art style, the Batman and Superman cartoons from the 1990s revolutionized American animation, and paved the way for other, more mature cartoons like Justice Leaugue Unlimited and the recent Justice League: New Frontier DVD. While Marvel had its own slate of popular cartoons in the 1990s, from Iron Man to the Hulk to the extremely successful X-Men, the level of character design, storytelling, animation and voice work were never up to par with DC’s offerings. In recent years, Marvel has attempted to capitalize on their Hollywood success by releasing a slew of direct-to-DVD projects, and while they’ve certainly been a step up from the company’s previous efforts, they still lack the polish and style that DC has in spades. With their newest offerings, Hulk Vs. Wolverine and Hulk Vs. Thor, Marvel is looking to catch up to their rivals by focusing on high-quality production and a more serious story.

Chris and I sat down to watch each of the movies, along with all the included special features. Our impressions are after the jump.

Samuel Jackson Signs Nine Picture Deal For Marvel

Posted by Luke On February - 26 - 2009

According to the Hollywood Reporter Marvel’s made theirs Samuel L. Jackson. For at least nine movies anyhow. The deal involves Jackson reprising his role as Nick Fury in the forthcoming Iron Man 2, Captain America, Thor, and Avengers movies, and the subsequent sequels. The report also mentions the possibility of Jackson starring in a stand-alone S.H.I.E.L.D. film.

I’m glad that his contract issues are over, and it’s nice to see that Marvel is committed to keeping all their Marvel Studios films tied together. I’m curious to see just who’s going to be cast in the major roles of their Thor and Captain America movies, but with their recent track record of getting top notch talent, I’m not too worried. Now get out there and sign that Mickey Rourke deal.

Green Lantern Movie Dated

Posted by Luke On February - 25 - 2009

Mark your calendars kids. Green Lantern will be hitting the silver screen December 17, 2010. I’ve already checked Fandango, and they’re not currently selling tickets, but I’m setting aside the next 21 months to wait in line at my local cinemaplex. Thank God for Wi-Fi. Anyhow, the Marc Guggenheim written film will reportedly follow the rise of Hal Jordan as a member of the Green Lantern Corps.

The DC comic hero will be joined in 2010 by Jonah Hex, due in theatres on August 6th, currently set to star Josh Brolin and John Malkovich. Looks like DC is finally going to start matching up toe-to-toe with Marvel at the theaters. Stay tuned for more news on these films as it develops.

(And yes, I’m aware that’s not how the oath goes… it just sounds better than saying “Beware My Power…” on a poster)
