NYCC 09: Friday Recap

Posted by Sarah LeBoeuf On February - 7 - 2009

It was a long day on the show floor, with us arriving shortly before ten in the morning and not leaving until well after dark. Hit the jump for a wrap-up of what we saw and what we played.

We started out by wandering the show floor, taking it all in until our first appointment at 11:30. Coop and I grabbed some hands-on time with GTA: Chinatown Wars, which was surprisingly fun. Luke, meanwhile, enjoyed Sega’s MadWorld. Then we got to hang out with Namco-Bandai and THQ; we’ll have more hands-on from some of their titles in the coming days.

Then it was time to see EA, who had some exciting things to show us, notably Godfather 2 and Battlefield 1943. After that, Luke and I made time for a couple of panels: Dark Horse and Marvel: X-Men. The panel rooms might have been ridiculously hot for some reason, but it was nice to get off my feet for a few minutes.

Then it was off to Sony’s NYCC cocktail party, which had taken over an entire restaurant a few blocks away. The food was delicious, but the games were even better. I was excited to get to see Uncharted 2, Coop and I became hypnotized by flower, and there were a few other games that you will hear more about later. It was a good time, and it was nice to take a breather and play games in a more relaxed environment with other members of the gaming press.

We arrived back at the Javitz Center around 6:30, and the night wasn’t done yet! Luke and Coop rushed off to a DC Animation media session, while I fought for a seat in the DC Nation panel. It was late and I was tired, but Dan DiDio managed to keep me (and everyone else) laughing. After that, it was finally time for Coop and me to return to the hotel, while Luke attended the Wonder Woman animated movie premiere; expect a full review soon.

We’ll be heading out in a bit to start Day Two of NYCC, and believe it or not, I think we’ve got even more stuff planned! Keep checking back for panel coverage and convention updates, and remember to visit Gamervision for more hands-on impressions than you can handle.
