NYCC 09: Marvel’s Cup o’ Joe

Well, the internet was being a bit unruly, so instead of a liveblog you’ll just have my notes on what CB Cebulski, Brian Michael Bendis, Dan Buckley, Jim McCann, and of course, Joe Quesada had to say. Hit the jump for all the details.
- For those who hadn’t heard, Dale Eaglesham and Johnathan Hickman will soon be on Fantastic Four.
- There will be 2 new Halo series. One will be written by Peter David, the other by Fred Van Lente. They will come out more frequently than the previous series.
- Ultimate Spider-Man is being cancelled. “We are done professionally.” – Bendis
- Don’t panic too much. In its place comes a new Ultimate Comics version with artist David LaFuente.
- After the events of Ultimatum, a time-jump occurs… “Not a reboot, just moving forward in time,”…
- Again, for those who didn’t already didn’t hear, Carlos Pacheco and Millar will be the new Ultimate Avengers team.
- Ultimate Requiems: final issues of the Ultimate titles. Immonen and Bagley will contribute to the Spider-Man issue.
The panel opened up to fans.
- Any more happening with Jessica Jones? Jessica will be a part of the New Avengers supporting cast. She will not be a part of the team. Sometime next year, there will be an Alias mini with Gaydos on art.
- Worried about the Ultimate universe overlapping with events in the 616 Universe? “You will see things we couldn’t do in the Marvel U happen in the Ultimate U.” – Quesada
- “You will see a life and a lifestyle that you’ve never seen in a Spider-Man book when the new Ultimate series kicks off.” – Bendis
- In Amazing Spider-Man #560-561, you will see some repercussions from everyone forgetting Spider-Man’s identity.
- There will be four titles in the new Ultimate line. Aside from two featuring Spidey and the Avengers, the other two books and creative teams will be announced later this year.
- Any plans to use the “Old Man Logan” future for stories after that arc ends? Millar is having a lot of fun there, but doesn’t have any definite plans for going back there at the moment.
- A woman in a Black Cat costumed approached the mic. Bendis: “Can I marry you?” Then the woman asked when she could expect a Black Cat featured book. No definitive answers were given.
- Cup O’ Joe video letters returning? Eventually, but they’re really time consuming.
- Will Norman Osborn affect Pete Wisdom’s team? There will be some Dark Reign goings on in Captain Britain and MI-13 soon.
- Powers will be returning later this year with a new number one. Bendis and Oeming wanted to have a bunch of issues in the can before soliciting more new stories.
- Who will be the next writer on Runaways after Terry Moore leaves with issue nine? Can’t announce that yet.
- Wiccan and a few of the other Young Avengers appear in New Avengers during the upcoming search for the new Sorcerer Supreme.
- Will Ultimate Nick Fury be coming back? “Read the books. I think you’ll be happy.” – Quesada
- Why of all people is Hank Pym leading an Avengers team? “He’s the greatest hero ever!” – Dan Slott from the back of the room.
- Can Uatu have his own series? “A whole book where he just watches? $3.99, I’ll put it out every week.” – Quesada
- Wizard of Oz artist Skottie Young texts CB with the following message: “OZ is the best book in the world. Not just at Marvel, not in comics… in the world.”
- Will the Demon Council from X-Infernus appear in other Marvel books? They will be addressed in the coming years.
- Where’s Wonder Man? Issue #51 of New Avengers.
- Starting with New Avengers #55, Stuart Immonen will be taking over art chores.
- Will we see Ben Reilly back? No immediate plans.
- Would Marvel ever sponsor a comics studies program at a university or school? It’s up to the university as to whether or not they want to add something like that to their curriculum.
- No current plans for a Silver Surfer solo book.
- Will we see Kitty Pride any time soon? “She’s like Haley’s Comet. She comes around ever 88 years.” – McCann (after Fraction)
