Some awesome news came out of San Diego Comic Con this weekend, with Bryan Lee O’Malley announcing that his awesome manga-like series Scott Pilgrim would be getting its own video game. While few details are available, O’Malley apparently stated that he expects a side-scrolling beat-em-up, which makes perfect sense within the context of the story. O’Malley, who has thrown many references to old-school games in the Scott Pilgrim series, also said that it would be inspired by the same unique art style as the comic.

Since the game is supposed to follow the storyline of the 2010 Scott Pilgrim movie, I wouldn’t expect to hear a lot of information about it until next year. Still, this is awesome news. If you haven’t read the story of Scott Pilgrim, and his quest to win Ramona’s heart by defeating her seven evil exes, I suggest you run out and buy the trades immediately. I know that being a tie-in, there’s a pretty big chance a Scott Pilgrim game could fall short, but as a huge fan of the series, I’m going to remain optimistic. We’ll keep you posted.
