After what everyone in Sara Pezzini’s life has been through in the last few months, it’s not surprising that this issue didn’t have a whole lot of action. Things are kind of weird for the most badass cop in the Top Cow U. She almost murdered her best friend, who is now the leader of the Angelus, restoring balance to the Witchblade; her actions have also damaged her relationship with her boyfriend, Patrick. To complicate things further, her little sister is just out of jail and staying with Sara at a time in her life where things are already pretty confusing.

Witchblade #131 feels very much like an issue between storylines. Technically, it is, with one chapter in Sara’s life ending and another one about to start. Dani is leaving town (and getting her own series, beginning with Angelus #1 in December), but Sara has a new friend and confidante in her sister. This transitional issue felt like it had a bit too much narrative meant to recap the events of the War of the Witchblades for the reader, and not enough story-driven events. That’s not to say the issue wasn’t an enjoyable read, but with “War of the Witchblades” being so entertaining and full of drama and action, Witchblade #131 was a strange transition.

I’m still totally on board with the series, and excited to see what’s next for Sara. The ending in particular was pretty intriguing, and hints at what the sole Witchblade bearer may have to deal with in the coming months. Witchblade #131 is in comic shops as of today. Between whatever is coming for Sara, Dani’s new life as the Angelus, and Jackie Estacado’s quest for vengeance, this should be a pretty interesting holiday season for the Top Cow universe.
