Digital Comic Update – 05.13.10
Check out all this week’s PSP, iPad, and iPhone comics fit to stare at on a digital interface.
comiXology
Despite how small this week’s haul is compared to the past few weeks, the comiXology app has a pretty decent amount of books worth checking out. The first six issues of Brian Bendis’ and David Finch’s New Avengers are up, and though “Breakout” as a storyline isn’t particularly groundbreaking, you absolutely cannot pass up six issues worth of David Finch gorgeousity. Especially on a display as crisp as the iPad’s. Additionally from Marvel you’ll see another three issues of the JMS run on Thor with Olivier Coipel. This opening story brought the Norse god back to the Marvel universe in grand fashion, and is a fantastic place to start reading. Several issues of Top Cow’s Witchblade also arrive, and come highly recommended. The things Ron Marz has done with the title of the course of the last few years have made Witchblade one of the more enjoyable reads on a monthly basis.

iVerse
It’s another light week on the iVerse app, and though this week’s haul is predominantly Archie-related, there are a handful of solid comics to check out. Origin, by Paul Jenkins and Andy Kubert, tells the true story of the man who grew up to be Wolverine. I won’t spoil any of it, as it’s a pretty good read, and since it’s largely self-contained, can be enjoyed by just about anyone. Another issue of Proof and another issue of Dynamo 5 round out the books worth mentioning. I don’t have anything against Archie, but it’s just not my cup of tea, and I can’t imagine those are the comics the iPad/iPhone crowd are dying to read.

- X-Men: Phoenix Warsong #5 – $1.99
Marvel
Nothing new on the Marvel app this week.
PSP
More Atomic Robo is never a bad thing, and though I’m sure I sound like a broken record at this point, you should be downloading this comic every opportunity you get. The only other series worth talking about is Immortal Iron Fist. Seven issues of Matt Fraction’s revival show up this week, and the series is an absolute must read. Back before the book was canceled, Immortal Iron Fist was one of the best books Marvel put out on a given month. Full of Chinese mythology, kung-fu, mysticism, and top-notch writing, Iron Fist didn’t deserve to be canceled, but at least the creators were given a chance to end the book properly.
- 2000AD Prog # 1679 – $1.99
- Archie # 604 – $0.99
- Atomic Robo Vol.3 # 1 – $0.99
- The Flying Friar # 1 – $0.99
- Garters & Ghouls # 1 – $0.99
- G.I. Joe # 17 – $1.99
- G.I. Joe: Operation HISS # 3 – $1.99
- The Immortal Iron Fist (2006) #15-21 – $1.99 (each)
- The Lexian Chronicles # 4 – $0.99
- Sonic the Hedgehog # 3 – $0.99
- Transformers: Last Stand of the Wreckers # 2 – $1.99
- Transformers: Spotlight # 20 – $1.99
