Blacksad – Read This Now!

Posted by Luke Brown On September - 10 - 2010

Once in a great while, a comic comes along that exemplifies the reason why graphic storytelling is such an incredible medium. Blacksad is one of those books.

Featuring some of the most gorgeous artwork I’ve ever seen, and scripting that would make Philip Marlowe proud, Blacksad is probably the best comic you’ve never heard of. Republished in English earlier this year by Dark Horse, the critically and commercially successful story follows private detective John Blacksad through three separate cases dealing with classic noir trappings like murder, kidnapping, and Cold War hysteria. It’s a brilliant collection, and is a book that every single person should be reading.

So we hear you’re looking for something to read. That’s great because we’ve got a ton of recommendations on what comics you should be checking out. Every week we’ll pick out one gem from the longboxes or trade shelves that you absolutely cannot miss. We’re talking mainstream, indie, full storylines, single issues, and beyond. If there’s a comic we enjoy that we think you will too, you’ll hear all about it on Read This Now!

Another awesome installment of Read This Now. I loved this hardcover, and all three stories are great. Definitely worth it even though it’s a little pricey.
