What to Watch for Wednesday

For comics shipping 12.15.10 or The Week You TRON Returned. Every week I’ll check Diamond’s shipping list to see what you absolutely, positively need to spend all your hard earned cash on at the Local Comic Shop.
ARCHAIA
Mouse Guard: The Black Axe #1 – $3.50
David Petersen returns to the world he created after a brief sabbatical, and brings us a prequel to the very first Mouse Guard tale. Here we’ll learn the story of the very first mouse to ever wield the black axe. A tale that’s sure to be as action-packed as it is enlightening, I’ve no doubt this mini-series will be just as brilliant as the previous Mouse Guard tales, and presents an excellent starting point for new readers.
DC COMICS
Assassin’s Creed: The Fall #2 – $3.99
The expansion of the Assassin’s Creed mythos continues this week with another chapter in the story of Russian Nikolai Orelov’s mission. Cameron Stewart and Karl Kerschl, working closely with Ubisoft, have created a character that I’m dying to see more of, and I can’t wait to see how it ties into the video games directly. Hopefully this issue, we’ll get some answers.
DMZ #60 – $2.99
The final year of DMZ starts now. Matty Roth may be back in the DMZ, but these next two issues take a step back to show us the story of the Second Civil War, and its subsequent effects on the US. I’ve always wanted to know just how things got as bad as they did for NYC, and I’m looking forward to seeing what Brian Wood has in store for the next twelve months.

Velocity #3 – $3.99
I’ve been dying for more of this book ever since I turned the last page of issue two. Kenneth Rocafort is doing some incredible work here, and Ron Marz has helped make a character that was nothing more than a play on the term “fast woman” into a leading lady capable of holding her own against any contemporary. I wish this book was going to be an ongoing, but I’m more than glad to just enjoy this fast-paced mini-series.
MARVEL COMICS
Uncanny X-Force #3 – $3.99
Rick Remender and Jerome Opena turn up the heat with this issue as X-Force is knee deep in the Horsemen of Apocalypse. Of course, not all of them may make it out alive. But thanks to Opena, at least the dead will look pretty dying, and the living will sound like total bad-asses thanks to Remender.
No trade this week. Check out the Holiday Gift Guide for some great reads you can pick up for some friends. Also, go see TRON: Legacy. It’s going to be awesome. Trust me.
