What to Watch for Wednesday

For comics shipping 12.29.10 or The Week It Snowed. Like, A Lot. Every week I’ll check Diamond’s shipping list to see what you absolutely, positively need to spend all your hard earned cash on at the Local Comic Shop.

DARK HORSE COMICS

Hellboy: The Sleeping and the Dead #1 – $3.50

Hey, it’s a new Hellboy story. That means you’re buying it. There’s a vampire apocalypse coming, and it looks like only Hellboy is going to be able to stop it. I’m a little over vampires at this point, but this book could be about a butterfly apocalypse, and as long as Hellboy was in it, I’d be reading it.

DC COMICS

Batman: The Dark Knight #1 – $3.99

David Finch writes and draws this new Bat-title that will supposedly deal with the more supernatural elements of Gotham City. I’m not entirely sure this book is going to be able to carry the same weight and bravado of Morrison’s titles, I do like David Finch’s hyper-rendered art. If this book is as interesting to read as it is to look at, it’ll be well worth the price of admission.

MARVEL COMICS

Incognito: Bad Influences #2 – $3.50

If there’s a new issue of Incognito on shelves, you best believe I’m picking it up. Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips do some brilliant work, and this follow-up to the excellent first Incognito series is certainly no exception to that standard. Make sure this book finds its way home with you.

That’ll do it for this year. We’ll see you in 2011.
