DARK HORSE COMICS

Axe Cop: Bad Guy Earth #1 – $3.50

More Axe Cop is always a good thing. I mean, how can you go wrong with a comic written by a six year-old? You can’t. This is going to be the debut of some new stories told in comic form, rather than a collection of the strips seen on the web, so I’m double-excited to check this out. It’s Axe Cop versus the world. I don’t think he’d want it any other way.

DC COMICS

Green Lantern #63 – $2.99

Now that the villain has been exposed (well, a few months ago in our time), the prelude to “War of the Green Lanterns” is off to a rocketing start. Having finally caught up on all my GL books (main series, Corps, and Emerald Warriors), I’m really excited for this event to kick off. I was worried that another event so soon in the GL mythos would seem forced, but Johns, Tomasi, and Bedard have done a great job of making this progression feel natural. Thankfully this storyline looks like it’s only going to take place within the core books, so you won’t have to worry about picking up a dozen other tie-ins (cough) Flashpoint (cough).

Secret Six #31 – $2.99

This storyline has been building for as long as this book has been in print, and I can’t wait to see what Simone and Califiore have in store for the unlucky member of the Six who tries to use the “Get Out of Hell Free” card. You know, I enjoy a lot of comics that are consistently good, and sometimes great, but with Secret Six, I don’t think there’s been a single issue or storyline that didn’t have me anticipating the next issue the way a junkie looks for his next fix. Truthfully, there are a lot of good books out there, but Simone’s writing is always top-notch, and never lets me down. If you haven’t been reading the book for the last 2+ years, this is as good a place to start as any.

MARVEL COMICS

Incognito: Bad Influences #4 – $3.50

No creative team working in comics today makes more interesting and bad-ass books than Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips. Now the reason I could say above that Secret Six is the cream of the crop is because as monthlies go, there really isn’t one better. Bru and Phillips though make the mini-series their collective bitch, and continually blow the competition away. If this team were working together on a monthly? Forget it. No other book stands a chance going toe-to-toe with any one single idea these two have rolled out in the last five years, and maybe more. Think I’m wrong? Go read their stuff. Come back to me with your thoughts. I can wait.

That’s all for this week. Be sure to check back at the end of the week for our digital comic picks in Let’s Get Digital.
