What to Watch for Wednesday

For comics shipping 04.13.11 or The Week Neve Campbell Was Relevant Again. Every week I’ll check Diamond’s shipping list to see what you absolutely, positively need to spend all your hard earned cash on at the Local Comic Shop.

Hellboy: Buster Oakley Gets His Wish – $3.50

Kevin Nowlan joins Mike Mignola for this Hellboy one-shot where Red gets taken by aliens, and must fight his way off the ship. Any Hellboy story is a good Hellboy story, but adding artist Kevin Nowlan to the equation multiplies this book’s awesome factor by at least 100. More importantly, it’s nice to have a Hellboy comic that stands outside the current continuity, which is firmly entrenched in a lengthy epic. Accessibility is key, and this would make a nice starting point for any of you out there who haven’t imbibed on the righteousness of the main man inside the BPRD.

Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #157 – $3.99

Mark Bagley returns to the book he was born to draw this week, and not a moment too soon. You see, it appears as if Spider-Man is about to die. At least, that’s what the current story arc title “The Death of Spider-Man” would have you believe. Even Bendis isn’t crazy enough to kill of the one character he writes better than any other. As glad as I am that Bags is returning to draw Ultimate Spider-Man, I sure am going to miss David LaFuente and Sara Pichelli. I know they’re going to be doing some cool stuff, but I was really digging on Pichelli’s art these last few months.

That’s going to wrap it up for this week. Very, very light. Be sure to check back this weekend for our digital picks of the week in Let’s Get Digital.
