What to Watch for Wednesday

For comics shipping 06.01.11 or The Week DC Hit Reset. Every week I’ll check Diamond’s shipping list to see what you absolutely, positively need to spend all your hard earned cash on at the Local Comic Shop.

DARK HORSE COMICS

Hellboy: The Fury #1 – $2.99

The final arc of Mignola’s and Fegredo’s trilogy arrives this week, and the shit is really going to hit the fan for Big Red the next few months. Stories like this are why this character is so brilliant, and why Mignola and Fegredo are one of the most consistently great creative teams working today.

DC COMICS

Secret Six #34 – $2.99

The Six return from Hell, but not everyone is coming back better for the journey. Bane has seen how insignificant his mission is, and now looks to be questioning everything he is. With the clock running out on this comic thanks to the big universe-wide relaunch, you know Gail Simone and Jim Califiore are going to bring it each and every month until the conclusion this August. Don’t you dare miss a moment.

IMAGE COMICS

Shinku #1 – $2.99

Ron Marz and Lee Moder team for this new book about a vampire hunting ninja. I mean, do I really need to say anything more? I’ve been looking forward to this book since it was announced, and as one of Marz’s bigger fans, I can’t wait to see what he’s got in store for all of us. Lee Moder’s art looks great from what I’ve seen so far, and even though vampires aren’t necessarily my cup of tea, vampire slayers are right up my alley.

MARVEL COMICS

Criminal: Last of the Innocent #1 – $3.50

Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips bring us yet another entry in the phenomenal Criminal series. These two do crime comics like nobody else working today, and the great thing about Criminal is that each story stands on its own. You should be picking this up. You wouldn’t want someone coming to visit you to break your legs, now would you?

S.H.I.E.L.D.: Infinity #1 – $3.99

Marvel’s craziest, and most interesting, series returns this week. Jonathan Hickman and Dustin Weaver really outdid themselves with the first chapter of this high-concept series, and I can’t wait to see what they’ve got planned for us with this next installment. I hope it ships on a more regular basis though, because there was a lot going on in the first mini-series that was hard to follow thanks to the irregular shipping habits. Really looking forward to this though.

That’s all for this week. See you next time.
