What to Watch for Wednesday

Posted by Luke Brown On November - 9 - 2011

For comics shipping 11.09.11 or The Week Everything Changed Forever For Marvel. Again. Every week I’ll check Diamond’s shipping list to see what you absolutely, positively need to spend all your hard earned cash on at the Local Comic Shop.

DARK HORSE COMICS

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 9 #3 – $2.99

Buffy’s on the run from the cops. Spike’s on the lookout for something or someone that’s coming for Buffy. This back-to-basics approach has really been interesting to read after the high concept “Season 8,” and I look forward to each issue of this like I did each new episode of the television show all those years ago.

DC COMICS

Batwoman #3 – $2.99

For the budget conscious fan during this incredibly busy gaming season, this is the one comic you absolutely must still buy. JH Williams III has set such an incredibly high bar for other comic artists, and it’s amazing to see his work continue to push the medium forward. It helps that the book is also well-written despite missing Greg Rucka, but the Batwoman ongoing is one of the best things to happen in the new DCU.

MARVEL COMICS

Avenging Spider-Man #1 – $3.99

Marvel’s making a big deal about each issue shipping with a free digital version, but I’m picking this book up solely for the Joe Mad artwork. I’m sure Zeb Wells’ script is going to be fun and action-packed, but I’m one of the Joe Mad fans that really misses his comic book work. Plus, it looks like they’re going straight from pencils again like they did with his run on Ultimates 3, which is always a cool treat for fans of seeing how different pencilled work is from inked.

Point One #1 – $5.99

A huge teaser-filled book, Point One is where Marvel’s major stories for 2012 kick off. I’m not typically a fan of these anthology books that only give the barest of glimpses at what’s coming down the line for an entire comic book line, but Marvel’s putting a lot of effort into this, so I’m curious to see how it all plays out.

No trade this week. See you next time.
